At the moment, the FT Champs releases are not enough to keep this blog active so we are going to give you our view on football too! Let us know if you want our view on a club, player or any subject!
The game of the day has to be Man Utd v Chelsea. It is a top of the table clash with Man Utd having the best home record and Chelsea having the best away record. Both clubs will want to keep up with Liverpool, so hopefully the match will feature two teams going for a win. England defenders Ferdinand and Terry are both available for this match and Scolari has to decide whether to go with the in-form Anelka or Drogba up front. Our prediction Man Utd 1 Chelsea 1 (Man Utd 13/10, Draw 2/1 Chelsea 5/2, 1-1 11/2 Skybet)
This week brought the return of Jermaine Defoe to Spurs - not a great surprise as Harry Redknapp had managed him at West Ham before signing him for Portsmouth. I am sure Defoe will be a good signing but Spurs need 4 or 5 other good players to be sure of safety this season. Some players will leave with David Bentley certain to be on the list after a disappointing start following his £15m summer move. (A good bit of business by Blackburn!) Maybe a swap deal with Downing could be the answer with Boro already having another left winger in Adam Johnson?
Spurs take on Wigan today, who have won 5 of their last 6 games, so they can expect a tough game. Our prediction - Wigan 2 Spurs 1 (Wigan 6/4, Draw 12/5, Tottenham 7/4, 2-1 9-1 Skybet)
Many of you will have heard Rafa Benitez's press conference on Friday. It was a cool, calm and calculated attack on Man Utd and particularly, Alex Ferguson. Some say it was the pressure getting to Benitez but I think this was a well thought out and well timed speech that will make the FA think next time Ferguson moans about fixtures, refs or anything else!
The transfer window is open until 2nd Feb and we have yet to see the top clubs spend any money. Man City have started the second part of their revolution with the signing of Wayne Bridge for £10m. A good signing with many more set to follow. Expect to see bids made for the likes of Santa Cruz, Parker, Bellamy, Given and possibly another superstar signing?! Maybe Arshavin?
The window could also see a few more foreign stars playing in the Premier League soon with Podolski, Saviola and Arshavin all available but the most intriguing transfer of all could be a reserve player heading for La Liga or Serie A. Yes, Jermaine Pennant doesn’t even play for Liverpool that regularly but Real Madrid, Sevilla and AC Milan are interested. Either he has something we have all missed or he has a very good agent!
